A wiped Mac was found: reinstalling macOS
Nothing Cybermatic does touches Recovery — the owner reinstalls in 30–60 minutes with no tools.
- 1Apple silicon: shut down, then press and hold the power button until 'Loading startup options' appears → Options → Continue → Recovery. Intel: restart and hold ⌘R until the Apple logo appears.
- 2In Recovery open Disk Utility → select the internal disk ('Macintosh HD' or the top-level Apple SSD) → Erase (format APFS) → close Disk Utility.
- 3Choose Reinstall macOS → follow the prompts. macOS downloads over Wi-Fi; allow 30–60 minutes. The Mac restarts into Setup Assistant like a new machine.
- 4If Find My was on, Activation Lock asks for the Apple ID that was signed in before the wipe. The rightful owner enters it; a thief can't — this is Apple's own lock doing the 'unusable to anyone else' part.
- 5Re-enroll in Cybermatic: install the agent again (Endpoint Protection → Install Agents) and re-enable protection on the device page. The old device record stays for the audit trail.
Tip: Recovery can't be reached (rare)? Another Mac plus Apple Configurator can restore the machine in DFU mode; Apple Support walks through it.
